The first of 33 Chilean miners trapped below the earth’s surface since August 5 was pulled to the surface late Tuesday night. Florencio Avalos, 31, was the lucky miner to be rescued first among his fellow workers. When asked about conditions below in the collapsed mine shaft over the past 69 days, Avalos said, “I swear nothing gay happened down there, no matter what the other guys say.”
