i don’t remember eating THAT

certain phrases manufactured in the english language genuinely puzzle me.  people hear things and repeat them without realizing they make little sense.  i have already written about my disdain for the phrase “i was born ready” here. another one came to mind after catching the movie “Tommy Boy” on HBO last week.

after running around in a field claiming to be getting attacked by bees to elude police, david spade’s character in the movie pukes on an anthill and then states, “it doesn’t look like the answer…i don’t remember eating that.”

i thought it was pea soup but its snot.

is the food we eat supposed to be recognizable after 2/3 of the digestive process has taken place?  or is the person attempting to be coy by implying, “hey! where’d this puke come from ?!?! im not sure how all this puke originally got inside my body!  i may have eaten it, but im not so sure!”

if your body is violently rejecting whatever you put into it (meatloaf, alcohol, MDMA), i would be less concerned about the individual makeup of the puke and more worried about WHY this was happening.

and i certainly wouldn’t regurgitate some phrase i heard someone else say to make light of the situation.  vom.
