Great Moments in Hockey

As I watched the United States v Canada hockey game come to an unbelievable finish in Vancouver over the weekend I couldn’t help but think about where this game will rank among the all time great hockey moments. Obviously the “do you believe in miracles” moment is at the top, but I wasn’t alive for that, so to me I guess I just don’t fully understand how important that game was at the time.

However, I do remember the 1991 NHL All-star game that took place during the first Gulf War; and since this is a Chicago based blog I couldn’t help but think about when Wayne Messmer did the classic Chicago Stadium National anthem on T.V. for the entire nation to see. Seeing as how the United States was in the middle of its first war in 20 years this particular National Anthem carried with it some extra meaning and made for one of the best hockey moments in my life and to this day I still get goose bumps when I watch it.

p.s. trying to refer to the United Center as “the madhouse on madison” is a fucking insult to what is one of those most classic stadiums of all time
