The 2 approaches to Lent

Today is Mardi Gras, which means for any good Catholic it’s your last chance to think of something to “give up” for lent.  Because, you know, life doesn’t suck enough without giving up something you actually enjoy.  For me, this usually comes from one of two categories.

Category 1–Something you give up for at most a week.  Things in this category include, but are not limited to:
Drinking
Napping
Doughnuts
Tobacco products
Masturbation
Basically anything worth doing.  Giving up any of these leads to excessive use of the other activities on the list.  Admirable, but not advisable.

Category 2–Giving up something you never do anyways.  Such as:
Bowling
Flying a kite
Wearing a condom
Showering/Flossing/general hygiene
Reading
Respecting yourself/others
Much more realistic than category 1, but probably not something that’ll make your parents proud.  Then again, you can always take the approach of  frequent imgross contributor Nation and give up “believing in Jesus.”
