things were not going so well for artest when the bulls at one point had a 35 point lead in the game. artest, seemingly panicked when realizing how much money he was going to lose, sent former teammate brad miller messages about the situation. miller, who was a former teammate of artests with the bulls and pacers, was very close to artest and admitting drinking french cognac with him at halftime during several games in the 1999-2000 season. miller had no problem point shaving.
“i knew most people would be focused on the gruge-match storyline”, referring to the feb. 18, 2009 trade that sent him and john salmons from a sacramento team that in return got cedric simmons, andres nocioni and drew gooden.
miller has really perfected his point shaving techniques. missed put-backs, errant passes, general lethargy, and a field goal percentage from beyond the arc of 18.2%. he’s done it all this season. pundits have chalked up the loss to a vinny del-negro coached team that has held the reputation as the worst 4th quarter team in the NBA even after scott skiles was banished to the milwaukee bucks.
artest knew he could manipulate a team that was, in reality, capable of blowing a 35 point lead on lack of team chemistry alone. he made the call and brad miller ensured it would happen. it is quite a well known fact that a majority of nba games are pre-determined by the mob, this one will be remembered as one they couldn’t control. artest learned a valuable lesson saturday, not to toy around with games unless getting the ok from an underboss.
“next time that artest gets out of line, those fucking stairs are going to be made of coral at the bottom of latigo beach.”
artest is listed as probable for mondays game against the suns.
