unlovable losers

crybaby

well, the inevitable happened.  the chicago cubs were eliminated from contention for the 2009 season.  it marks the end of a year filled with confusion, disappointment, and embarassment for the north siders.  only one year after having the best record in the NL and clear cut world series favorites the chicago cubs ended their 09 playoff hopes in a sad display of mediocrity.  i think this season is significant however.  fuck ups and typical cubdom came together in a perfect storm to make this team incredibly pathetic.  there really are no excuses.  no euphemisms can mask the fact that the cubs are the antithesis of what a good baseball team should be.  the “loveable losers” that play at wrigley on national tv who win and the crowd sings go cubs go has proven to be very profitable for the team put is the crux of why this shit team is so shitty and it doesn’t matter to anyone.  being a cubs fan is not a personal choice to root for a particular baseball team.  its a mindset, an attitude- a paradigm.  the fact that this team is so pathetic and i still get text messages from friends offering me tickets to the game when they are 11 games out is pathetic.  anyone walking around casually with a stupid cubs hat when they are this bad is just a symbolic beacon of idiocy.  i would be fucking embarrassed to be seen in any cubs gear.  there are no excuses for the team, top on down.  from the faceless corporate ownership to general managers dismantling a solid likeable team to a drunk apathetic manager to bratty right fielders who don’t know how many outs there are to a palsy first basement to rookie of the year who hits .215 the next year while playing only 40 games to an ace pitcher who can’t seem to grow up.  this is what baseball mediocrity looks like.  and the fan base is a bunch of enablers.  ”soriano’s the kind of guy who can carry a team when he’s hot….wait til aramis is healthy…..i love big z’s fiery passion….can’t get rid of d lee”.  the moment i realized how pathetic cubs fans were was when that guy dumped a beer on shane victorino’s head while catching a fly ball and everyone cheered.  i didnt necessarily feel bad for the center fielder, i just pitied cubs fans.  it was such a microcosm of the cub fan mentality as a whole.  this season should be the one that puts things in perspective and allows for the fan to self reflect. but it won’t be.   cubs fans are either too ignorant or arrogant to share these views on the team.  steve stone understood the dynamic, and got fired for expressing it.  just keep the cycle going northsiders.  as long as you allow yourself to be fooled by empty promises and false hope, you enable this team to be juuuuust good enough to be in a possible playoff spot only to see your team defeated again.  wait til next year, cubs fans.  but i wont.
