the other day i was thinking about how funny having to read aloud in grade school was, especially when 10 year olds had to get through “dorothea dix” without laughing. so i began to do some half ass wiki research because im very stupid and forgot who dorothea dix was. thats right i remember now. she was an american activist on behalf of the indigent insane who, through a vigorous program of lobbying state legislatures and the united states congress, created the first generation of american mental asylums. during the civil war. she served as a superintendent of army nurses. what better way to remember her than to build a fountain in boston for thirsty horses. |
