the weird thing about comedy is that you must try to find new ways to make people laugh when pretty much everything that can be done has already been done. this is what forces comedic innovation where the true visionaries shine through. whats left behind are people like lisa lampanelli. when she broke out on the scene in 2002 at comedy central’s roast of chevy chase i remember the buzz created. everyone thought she was very “raunchy” because she talked about “taboo” subjects. yawn. thats the job of a lot of crappy comics. do they have staying power? absolutely not. there is just so many times talking about going down on black dudes can be funny. ill break down lisa lampanelli’s formula for flash-in-the-pan success. she took a sam kinison type foul mouth, combined it with the stage antics/crowdwork of a typical male black comic and tried to rip off sarah silverman’s unparalleled doe-eyed candor and put it all together in one act. anyone heard from lisa lampanelli lately? still doing the same jokes? lisa lampanelli, not only are you gross…..you suck too.
