as if the space program wasn’t an obscene waste of money already, an astronaut’s tool bag that was accidentally dropped during a spacewalk on november 18th finally entered the earths atmosphere and burnt up. the tool bag contained a grease gun, trashbags, and a scraper tool. the value of this bag according to nasa was….wait for it….wait for it…..one hundred thousand dollars!!!! now assuming all the items in the bag were valued equally that would make the “scraper tool” worth approximately 33 thousand dollars, but that’s unlikely because it is doubtful that the trash bags were worth 33 thousand dollars. realistically, the most expensive trash bags i could find on ebay were 119.00 dollars, and the most expensive backpack on ebay was a louis vuitton, valued at 2,200 dollars so through deductive reasoning that would put the scraper tool in the neighborhood of 48,675 dollars and 5 cents (depending of course on the price of the grease gun, which i could not find online and also assuming the astronauts carry louis vuitton, which is possible but doubtful). 48,675.05 is approximately the same price as a brand new audi S5 quattro fully loaded complete with navigation system. i’m not sure who is actually ruined by this, the bonehead astronaut who dropped the 100,000 dollar bag or the american taxpayer who purchased the 48 thousand dollars scraper tool. either way keep up the good work nasa! astronaut and american tax payer…you are ruined!
p.s. next time at least use that 50 grand to paint some racing stripes on the shuttle, at least that would be cool
