over seven months ago a team of scientists from clearwater marine aquarium rescued a dolphin off the coast of florida who was suffering from pneumonia, gastritis, and several violent shark bites. over the course of those seven months dozens of scientists from clearwater, and gulf world marine park fought to keep the young dolphin alive performing several surgeries, using cocktails of antibiotics, antifungals, antacids, and vitamins. somehow, defying all odds, the dolphin, who the scientists lovingly named “dunham,” miraculously survived and began to flourish in his new florida home. the team decided that after more then a half year of hard work and rehab dunham was ready to go back to his natural habitat, so they shipped him to tampa and after a tearful goodbye released him into the gulf.
less then one hour later, as the team watched, the hapless dolphin was viciously attacked by a 9 foot tiger shark and died….. diane young, the stunned director of animal care for the clearwater marine aquarium commented “we thought he was ready, he looked real good, feisty even, it just happened so fast.” The grief stricken team will lay “dunham” to rest early next week.
“I guess sometimes you cant stop nature from taking its course” young said. Dunham the dolphin’s tragic story is your im ruined moment of the week.
